"The best kept secret of the Dandenongs" - Washington Irving
The Leigh Sloggett Duo’ brings together the singing, songwriter and guitar playing talents of Leigh Sloggett with the percussion skills of Rob Groves.
Leigh’s distinctive husk-tinged vocals and compelling musicianship on both lap-slide and open tuned guitars, driven and punctuated by Rob’s expressive and dynamic drumming defines the characteristic sound of this unique duo.
Leigh has three albums of original acoustic folk-blues material to his name and his songs are included on several compilation CDs including, ‘Pick of the Crop 3’ (released by Trad & Now Magazine), ‘Music in a Quiet Place’ (a selection from the 2009 Melbourne Library Service Acoustic Series) and ‘A Mountain of Sound’ (live recordings from Mountain District Radio 3MDR 91.7fm). He released his third album, ‘More Than I Need’ in 2012 and it went onto reach number eight on the Australian Blues and Roots charts and had radio airplay around Australia, most prominently on ABC Radio National’s program, ‘The Inside Sleeve’. He has toured internationally and has been performing consistently over the past decade at festivals, clubs and a variety of other venues and events.
Rob Groves commenced his drumming career in Brisbane playing in clubs and bars in the 80’s. He moved to Melbourne in the 90’s and continued his passion for drums playing with various Melbourne based bands. He became a member of a legendary girl band ‘Hotbox’ which saw him playing at various festivals around Victoria including numerous TV appearances. His success in the drumming circuit lead him to become the founding member of jazz band ‘Raw Silk’. He has also performed in theatre supporting live theatrical productions and recorded with numerous artists over the years.
