"The best kept secret of the Dandenongs" - Washington Irving
September at Selby Folk club is a celebration of song. This year we are thrilled to present some groups knocking ’em dead at a cappella festivals across the country along with some local favourites.
The name Co-cheòl means harmony in Scots-Gaelic, and when it comes to this crew, it could not be more true to form. With voices from other-worldly places, these four lasses with seriously luscious harmonising skills will take you on a journey to the lands of the Celts and beyond with their gorgeous arrangements of soaring airs.
Members of this multi-award winning group include Claire Patti, Georgina Walton and twins Merrily and Ginger Hansen. Since they started singing together in October 2013, they have performed at folk festivals around the country, won first place in the AUS-ACA Victorian State Championships, were Runners Up in the National AUS-ACA Championships and received the prestigious Peter J Daly Memorial Award for the ‘Best Up-Coming Celtic Act’ at the National Folk Festival in 2015.
The effervescent Platinum Quartet have entertained crowds at public and private functions all over town. They competed for the first time at the SAI National Competition in Sydney in 2014. Besides all things Barbershop and bling, they also share a love of animals – and have 6 cats, a dog and a vet between them!
Platinum Quartet formed around Christmas time in 2012 when best buddies and long-time singing duo, Deb Neilsen and Kerry Haddow got together with fellow Lead & Vocal Vibes member Alison Brown. Deb’s sister-in-law, Margot Thorne was cajoled into just having a go and she did, and the quartet was complete.
